San Francisco Throwback

.................................

Fisherman's Warf, Golden Gate Bridge and hippies everywhere. It's eight months ago. San Francisco, Ocean Beach at night, with a stranger on a picnic blanket. Beautiful clear sky. Miserable attempts to find star images. Laughter. The moonlight illuminates the images drawn by the sea. We sit together silently, watch the waves and have never felt anything more beautiful. A feeling of peace and freedom is spreading.

Sometimes it is good to look back and remember moments like this. Of course you get melancholic but at the same time, I feel hope. Somehow this feeling will come back to me. Maybe soon. Here in Germany the cold and cloudy days took over. It is Advent, but the typical cozy and contemplative feeling is missing. It is probably because of the rainy weather. It hasn't snowed for days.

In San Francisco I was actually because of a weekend class for Au Pairs from Alliant International University. We have learned something about the history of the city of San Francisco, about California and about the USA in general. However, we were not just sitting in the classroom all the time. We also explored the city itself. We walked up to the Coit Tower, countless steps. Have seen Fisherman's Warf with Pier 39 and for cute seals. Went at the Walt Disney Family Museum, the Golden Gate Park, the De Young Art Museum and have made a city rally.

On Monday and Tuesday after the weekend, I took leave to explore the city on my own. Then I went to the Golden Gate Bridge, of course, must not be missing! Enjoyed a breathtaking view of San Francisco from the Twin Peaks and spent almost a full day on the island of Alcatraz. This was once a prison island and the building with the prison cells was still very well preserved. There was also an audio tour in German. I found it totally interesting! So check it out if you get there. One evening I spent with my Couchsurfing host and we went to the Musée Mécanique. This is a gambling hall with a collection of antique arcade machines and almost all of them are still operational. If you like flea markets and vintage stuff, you gonna like it. I thought it was great and we had a lot of fun playing the devices. Afterwards we went to a fish restaurant in Fisherman's Warf for dinner. It was delicious!

*Sorry for so many pictures. I had over 600 and it was hard to decide for just a few.
